The EDIT™ Approach
EDIT™ is a comprehensive Outpatient Eating Disorder and Addiction Treatment that was developed by Dr. Dorie McCubbrey, PhD, MSEd, LPC, LAC, CEDS over twenty years ago as she recovered from anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, and obesity. This approach helps you get back in touch with your body in an intuitive way. The EDIT™ Approach is the release of the “false self” that happens with an eating disorder and addictions, and the start of recovery of your “true self,” the real you underneath the behaviors. By using the EDIT™ Certified Approach, you will learn how to distinguish the “ED” or Eating Disorder voice from your “IT” or Intuitive Therapist voice so that you can feed your true hunger with wisdom.
Diets can give way to eating disorders and weight challenges, but the EDIT™ solution can lead to total recovery and a continuous path of liberation and independence. EDIT™ explores five principles, which can be depicted as communication between the voice of “ED” (eating disorder) and the restorative wisdom of the “IT” or Intuitive Therapist within every one of us. At first, you may only perceive the Eating Disorder voice. However, as your EDIT™ Certified Recovery Coach, I will mirror the voice of the Intuitive Therapist until you can hear “IT” from inside. I meet you where you are in your unique path and work with you to get you where you need to be.
Evidence-based: integrates Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.
Holistic: using mindfulness-based techniques and empathy, the mind and behaviors of the eating disorder "ED" can be changed into those of the Intuitive Therapist "IT."
Client-Focused: client develops access to their Intuitive Therapist "IT," letting it guide recovery.
Transpersonal: getting past the viewpoint of the “false self” to understanding one’s “True Self," united with the Heart-Soul-Mind-Body.
Solution-Centered: with a principal aim of permanent liberation from eating disorder behaviors.
EDIT™ works best with:
Individuals with eating disorder symptoms that are mild to moderate, with no critical medical risks.
Individuals who have already been through treatment for an eating disorder and are seeking continued assistance, support & nutritional direction.
Individuals seeking to recover beyond eating disorder trauma.
Individuals without an eating disorder, but who have an unhealthy relationship with food and are ready for skills and assistance.
Individuals who feel detached from their food and eating mannerisms.
Individuals in search of a healthy connection with food and body image.
Entertainers, models, performers, and image-conscious individuals seeking to have peace with their bodies and food.
EDIT™ is based on 5 principals:
Love Your Self – learn to love your true self more, no matter your weight or size.
Be True To Your Self – intuitively trust yourself with the kind of life you want to lead.
Express Your Self – develop new and healthy ways of coping for pleasure and distraction from “ED” behaviors.
Give To Your Self – reward yourself with things that truly replenish your body, mind, soul, and heart instead of the “ED” behaviors.
Believe In Your Self – continued freedom from eating disorder behaviors; living a life guided by your intuition.
EDIT™ is utilized with all types of eating disorders: Binge Eating Disorder, Bulimia Nervosa, Anorexia Nervosa, and other kinds of addictive behaviors. Furthermore, EDIT™ has been used successfully for over twenty years in modifying addictive behaviors.
Instead of concentrating on becoming medically stabilized, EDIT™ assists clients in uncovering the hidden messages their eating disorders bring by questioning their fundamental cause. EDIT™ strategies provide methods to lessen eating disorder behaviors, but real symptom resolution occurs organically when clients acknowledge the source of their eating disorders. As EDIT™ care continues, integrated healing takes place physically, spiritually, mentally, and emotionally.
EDIT™ was created by Dr. Dorie McCubbrey, PhD, MSEd, LPC, LAC, CEDS in 1995 and has been successfully used for over 20 years.
